- About Simon
Dear Admitted Simon Student:
The Career Management staff would like to welcome you to the Simon School. We look forward to working with you immediately after your arrival at Simon. You will be joining us for our multi-day Career Management educational program called FOCUS, which includes skill development and instruction on effective job search techniques and guidance on M.B.A./M.S. career choices that best match your interests and abilities. We will work hard together to ensure success in your job search, and protect the integrity of the Simon brand in the marketplace. To ensure all of our students meet acceptable job search technique and recruiting etiquette standards, you must attend our FOCUS Program in its entirety during Orientation. If you miss any portion of our FOCUS Program, you will not be permitted to utilize our recruiting resources and on-campus interviewing tools.
A couple of months prior to Orientation, we will ask that you complete CareerLeader, a business assessment used by leading M.B.A./M.S. schools throughout the US. CareerLeader will help identify the rewards and motivations that drive your management interests. Do you want some help in distinguishing yourself in the MBA marketplace? You can learn the answer to this question, and gain much more insight when you take CareerLeader and study the results. Your personalized results will suggest various post-M.B.A. or M.S. career options for which you might be a good fit based on your interests and abilities. It will also highlight your career strengths and challenges.
We will also ask you to register yourself in eRecruiting, the Simon School’s Online Recruiting Management System. The eRecruiting system is flexible and convenient. It offers 24/7 access to postings and events as well as your account profile and documents you will create including resumes and cover letters. As soon as you create your profile, you will immediately be able to check out CMC activities. There will be a number of activities in January, such as corporate presentations and CMC educational programs, that we encourage you to register for. You will also be using eRecruiting to manage your recruiting applications, interviews, and job search process.
You will be able to access for CareerBeam, a comprehensive career development, research, and job posting database. You may complete the Be Clear section of CareerBeam before attending our FOCUS program, if you so desire, however completion is not a requirement. Should you choose to complete the Be Clear component, It will take you approximately 4 hours. It includes some reading and a few exercises, all related to helping you identify your strengths, attributes and interests as they relate to your future career choice. If you know exactly what you would like to do with your career after Simon, these exercises will help you clarify your “marketing message” to potential employers. If you don’t yet know what you would like to do with your career after Simon, these exercises will help you to gain insight and ideas on the best career paths for someone with your interests and attributes.
After receipt of your enrollment deposit, the detailed information and instructions you will need to access, register, and complete these tasks will be sent to you in early to mid-November. We hope you will choose the Simon School. We welcome your inquiries at career@simon.rochester,edu.
Regards,
The Career Management Center Staff
