The Executive of the Year Award honors a business person who has made a groundbreaking contribution to his or her organization, who exemplifies the spirit of leadership, demonstrates a deep respect for our nation's fiscal health, and has a significant pattern of public service and philanthropy.
This year, Louis Gerstner, former chairman and CEO of IBM, will receive the 2013 Executive of the Year Award, to be presented by University of Rochester President Joel Seligman and Edmund Hajim '58, chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.
Lou's nomination is in recognition of his lifetime achievement as an exemplary business leader as well as your commitment to the advancement of education in America. Your legendary actions at IBM, setting new strategies, transforming the corporate culture, bringing energy and focus to its employees, and delivering growth and renewal, provide a stellar role model of leadership in the global business community. The lessons learned are enduring and of historic significance; the accomplishments are arguably unprecedented among peer multinational corporations. More recently, his efforts in applying many of these successful principles to the transformation of our public school system is an important endeavor, worthy of acknowledgement and recognition. Through the advocacy of high academic standards and engagement of business and government leaders, there is hope for culture change, action and progress.
