Google Acquires Motorola Mobility

In a major effort to maintain Android as the leading content platform in the world of cell phones, Google's recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility is in line with the company's core strategy. Simon Graduate School of Business Professor Abraham Seidmann says that Google will need to balance three key factors as it introduces Motorola into its portfolio: ease of use, attractive pricing with cell phone providers, and a steady stream of cool and useful applications. "This is an opportunity to jumpstart attractive pricing and innovation in Android technology," Seidmann says. "But, don't be surprised when Google sells out this venture a few years from now. In this world, communication is commodity, but content is king and content provision will remain Google's core strategy in the years to come."
