Rochester, N.Y.—September 18, 2007—The Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester has been ranked 4th out of 51 schools on the regional list in the annual Wall Street Journal/Harris Interactive survey of the world's top business schools, published in the September 17, 2007, issue of the Wall Street Journal. The Simon School ranking is up from the 6th place position last year, and a significant jump from 17th place the year before that.

Across all of the 264 surveyed business schools, Simon also ranked 9th in finance.

“We believe that a number of factors played a role in our rankings gain this year,” said Simon School Dean Mark Zupan. “These factors include improvements in our student quality over the last several years; the efforts of our Career Management team to deepen our corporate recruiter base and to better match students' career aspirations with the requirements of the corporations that recruit at Simon; the initiation of several curricular enhancements; and an organized marketing campaign that has promoted our School and its students to the corporations for whom they desire to work.”

The Journal rankings are based on a survey of 4,430 corporate recruiters regarding 185 leading U.S. schools and 79 non-U.S. schools. Three categories (national, regional, and international) are used by the Wall Street Journal/Harris Interactive to rank the schools. The published ranking features 85 schools (19 in the national category, 51 in the regional category, and 24 in the international category). This year's recruiters took an online survey between Dec. 19, 2006, and March 23, 2007, and rated full-time M.B.A. programs on 21 different attributes, including students' leadership potential and strategic thinking, their previous work experience, the faculty and curriculum, and the career-services office. Of all the attributes, recruiters said interpersonal and communication skills, a teamwork orientation, personal ethics and integrity, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a strong work ethic matter most to them.
