Rochester, N.Y.-April 12, 2007-A flag ceremony featuring members of the University of Rochester Naval R.O.T.C. unit will mark the donation of the late William E. Simon's personal flag collection to the School that bears his name. The ceremony is set for April 20, 2007 from 8–8:15 a.m. on the Florescue von Manstein Plaza outside of Gleason Hall on the University of Rochester River Campus (weather permitting; an alternative location has been planned).

The four flags, to be donated by the William E. Simon Foundation, represent Mr. Simon's government service including his term as U.S. Treasury Secretary during the Nixon and Ford Administrations. In addition to Mr. Simon's American flag, the flags bear the emblems of the U.S. Treasury department, the Secretary of the Treasury and the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.

“We are deeply grateful to the Simon Foundation for this gracious and meaningful gift to the Simon School,” says University President Joel Seligman. “This gift is a powerful demonstration of the Simon family's devotion to the School that bears their father's name and to the University of Rochester.”

Mr. Simon's son, J. Peter Simon, co-chairman of William E. Simon & Sons Inc. and chair of the Simon School Executive Advisory Committee, will attend the ceremony. “We are honored to have William E. Simon's personal flag collection here at the Simon School,” says Dean Mark Zupan. “We will treasure the collection and display it proudly in the Schlegel Hall, Eisenberg Rotunda.”

The inaugural Sands Leadership Lecture featuring finance scholar and former Simon School professor Michael C. Jensen will be immediately following the ceremony in Gleason Hall, Room 318/418. The lecture, “A New Model of Leadership,” is open to the public. Registration is required by e-mail at nathan.kadar@simon.rochester.edu. The Sands Leadership Lecture Series is made possible through the generous support of Richard Sands, chairman and C.E.O. of Constellation Brands Inc. and member of the Simon School's Executive Advisory Committee.
