Simon School to Host an Early Leaders Case Competition

Rochester, N.Y.-April 17, 2007-Fifty of the brightest young business minds in the country will compete for thousands of dollars in prizes this weekend at the Simon Graduate School of Business, University of Rochester Early Leaders Case Competition.

Beginning on Friday, April 20, 2007, at 1 p.m., the Early Leaders Case Competition will bring together undergraduate students and recent graduates from colleges such as Niagara University, Alfred University, Queens College, Ithaca College, SUNY Brockport, College of Wooster, Dickinson College, University of Rochester and University of Michigan to compete in a business case competition designed to simulate decisions faced by business leaders across the globe. Each team will have a Simon graduate student as a coach to provide input, support and guidance during the competition.

Teams will compete for a $7,000 first place prize, with additional monetary awards for runner-up teams.

“With fifty motivated students from among the best schools working together, the energy will be tremendous here this weekend,” says Simon School Dean Mark Zupan. “We expect to hear some great ideas from this case competition.”

Participants will divide into teams, and receive a case to resolve. Under tight deadline requirements, each team's creativity and problem-solving skills will be put to the ultimate test.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, each team will provide a case analysis and recommendations to a panel of judges comprised of Simon School professors and alumni who will evaluate each team based on the originality of the proposed solution, the depth and insightfulness of analysis and the relevance of the presentation.

At 7:30 p.m., all participants will be attending an awards dinner to be held at the Doubletree Hotel Rochester, 1111 Jefferson Road.
