Rochester, N.Y.-January 28, 2008-The Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester is ranked 47th among the world's top 100 business schools in an annual survey in today's issue of the Financial Times of London. For the second straight year, Simon is 22nd among United States business schools. This is the 8th time that the Simon School has been ranked in the top 25 in the United States by the FT out of the 10 times that the annual survey has been conducted. The Simon School has been ranked in the top 30 in the U.S. by the FT all 10 years since the survey's inception in 1999.

In specialty areas and based on alumni recommendations, the internationally influential British newspaper also ranked Simon 3rd in the world for finance (up from 5th last year); 4th in the world for managerial economics (tied with last year); 4th in the world in accounting (up from 5th last year and the School's highest placement in this category); and 8th in the world for statistics (first placement in this category).

“We are indeed gratified by this international recognition from the Financial Times,” says Dean Mark Zupan. “Our ultimate goal is to continue providing our students with a first-rate graduate business education while remaining committed to a process of continuous improvement.”

The annual survey, described by the Financial Times as a “comprehensive assessment of the value of an M.B.A. and the schools that offer them,” was based this year on information collected from 156 business schools and their Class of 2004 graduates.

Business schools are ranked by the Financial Times annually based on the following criteria: the career progression accrued from the M.B.A., diversity, and research. Other factors include: placement statistics (such as salary percentage increase and weighted salaries); measures of the diversity of schools' students, faculty and board members; and statistics of our faculty and their research in 40 internationally refereed journals.

The Simon School is world renowned for its distinctive economics-based, analytically-oriented, cross-functional approach to management education, intended to provide students with a coherent framework for understanding the way business is conducted around the globe. The highly-personalized, team-oriented Simon experience is designed to prepare students to navigate the challenges that arise in any business environment.
