SIMON OFFERS NEW SCHOLARSHIPS IN RESPONSE TO DOWN ECONOMY

Author:Charla Stevens Kucko

Release Date: Oct 09, 2008

Rochester, N.Y.―October 9, 2008―As an investment in the power and promise of human capital and the ideas that flow from bright and talented individuals, the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester is offering graduate business degrees with special scholarship support for U.S. citizens and permanent residents adversely affected by the current economic downturn.

Starting as soon as the January 2009 cohort, the “InnovatUR” scholarships will allow individuals to pursue M.B.A. studies at Simon. “Much like savvy investors such as Warren Buffett know that now is the time to buy financial assets, the Simon School realizes that now is the time for leading business schools to take ‘equity stakes,’ through scholarship support, in top prospective students,” says Dean Mark Zupan.

Over the next two years, up to 50 scholarships will be offered annually to prospective students pursuing a full-time M.B.A. degree at the Simon School. The partial- to full-tuition scholarships will be based on academic merit and financial need. “We are allocating dedicated scholarship funding,” says Zupan. “This is an opportunity for bright, talented professionals to invest in their future by pursuing an advanced business degree.” In addition, recent college graduates are encouraged to take advantage of the Simon School’s Early Leaders® initiative that is especially targeted for students with three or fewer years of work experience.

One of only two business schools to enroll students in both January and September, the Simon School is ranked among the premier business schools in the world. U.S. News & World Report ranked Simon 25th in the U.S. in April 2008. BusinessWeek named Simon 28th in the U.S. in 2006, and earlier this year, the Financial Times of London rated the School third in the world for finance, fourth for managerial economics and accounting, and eighth in statistics.

Scholarship recipients must meet standard Simon admissions requirements and complete an essay to explain why they should be selected for the award. For convenience, the standard admissions interviews will be conducted both at Simon and on-site in select cities around the world. For further information, contact Gregory V. MacDonald, executive director of M.B.A. admissions and administration, at (585) 275-3533, e-mail admissions@simon.rochester.edu, or visit our Web site at www.simon.rochester.edu.
