SIMON SCHOOL RANKED SECOND IN THE WORLD FOR FINANCE IN FINANCIAL TIMES OF LONDON ANNUAL SURVEY

Rochester, N.Y.―January 26, 2009―The Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester is ranked 2nd in the world for finance and 5th in the world for managerial economics among the world’s top 100 business schools in an annual survey in today’s issue of the Financial Times of London.

Overall, the Simon School ranked 46th among global business schools and for the third straight year, 22^nd among U.S. business schools. This is the 9th time that the Simon School has been ranked in the top 25 in the United States by the FT out of the 11 times that the annual survey has been conducted. The Simon School has been ranked in the top 30 in the U.S. by the FT all 11 years since the survey’s inception in 1999.

            “We are indeed gratified by this international recognition from the Financial Times,” says Dean Mark Zupan. “Our ultimate goal is to continue providing our students with a first-rate graduate business education while remaining committed to a process of continuous improvement.”

            The annual survey, described by the Financial Times as a “comprehensive assessment of the value of an M.B.A. and the schools that offer them,” was based this year on information collected from 157 business schools and their Class of 2005 graduates.

            Business schools are ranked by the Financial Times annually based on the following criteria: the career progression accrued from the M.B.A., diversity, and research. Other factors include: placement statistics (such as salary percentage increase and weighted salaries); measures of the diversity of schools’ students, faculty and board members; and statistics of our faculty and their research in 40 internationally refereed journals.
