Rochester, N.Y.―October 22, 2008―The Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester is teaming up with Teach for America® to offer up to five partial-tuition scholarships annually to graduates of the Teach for America program.
The partial-tuition scholarships, worth a total of $20,000 over two years, will be based on academic merit. In addition, Teach for America alumni may be considered for other merit scholarships, and a two-year deferral option exists for students who are admitted to the program and choose to join Teach for America and complete the teaching requirement before pursuing a graduate business degree.
“The Simon Graduate School of Business is very pleased to enter into this partnership with Teach for America,” says Simon School Dean Mark Zupan. “It fits very well with our overall strategy to shift the conventional wisdom related to graduate business education in America.” Through the Early Leaders® initiative, the Simon School aims to attract highly talented individuals who choose not to wait the traditional five to six years currently expected by most top-tier business schools. “Our recent success in placing younger M.B.A. graduates has exceeded our expectations, and Teach for America alumni will contribute to this positive momentum,” says Gregory V. MacDonald, executive director of M.B.A. admissions and administration.“We strongly believe that launching a career with Teach for America followed by graduate study at the Simon School will fast track graduates into highly desirable employment opportunities.”
One of only two business schools to enroll students in both January and September, the Simon School is ranked among the premier business schools in the world. U.S. News & World Report ranked Simon 25th in the U.S. in April 2008. BusinessWeek named Simon 28th in the U.S. in 2006, and earlier this year, the Financial Times of London rated the School third in the world for finance, fourth for managerial economics and accounting, and eighth in statistics.
Scholarship recipients must meet standard Simon admissions requirements and complete an essay to explain why they should be selected for the award. For convenience, the standard admissions interviews will be conducted both at Simon and on-site in select cities around the world. For further information, contact Gregory V. MacDonald, executive director of M.B.A. admissions and administration, at (585) 275-3533, e-mail admissions@simon.rochester.edu, or visit our Web site at www.simon.rochester.edu.
