ROCHESTER, N.Y. —April 20, 2009—The Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester is partnering with the Monroe County Bar Association’s Center for Education to offer an “M.B.A. Boot Camp for Attorneys” at Locust Hill Country Club on May 20, 2009. Thomas H. Jackson, Distinguished University Professor and President Emeritus, will provide a luncheon keynote for this event, addressing the complementary concerns of the potential of bankruptcy in deals and dispute negotiations.
Lawyers represent businesses in many types of transactions, making it critical for them to have an in-depth understanding of the commercial framework including how each particular business client formulates strategies and the overall organizational design needed to achieve operational effectiveness.
Susan Laluk, incoming president-elect of MCBA and corporate attorney, noted that, “This partnership of the Bar with the Simon School is a logical step in educating attorneys in evaluating transactional deals, case negotiation, as well as resolving business disputes.”
As in most states, lawyers are required to complete continuing education programs to maintain their licenses to practice in New York State.
The Simon School has previously provided executive education business law programs, in particular, an internal office-wide program for the firm, Nixon Peabody LLP. “Simon’s high quality, collaborative seminars challenged and inspired our firm to think differently regarding our clients’ business issues,” says Dennis Duggan Jr., partner. Carin Conlon, executive director of executive programs at the Simon School says that,” We are excited about the opportunity to share best business practices with the legal community. We believe there is applicability to this field and will continue to launch these programs within other industries as well.”
Laluk’s co-chair of the event, William Alexander, is a corporate attorney with Remington, Gifford, Williams & Colicchio and currently serves on the MCBA Business Law Council. Laluk is a partner in the Business, Employment and Intellectual Property groups of Boylan, Brown, Code, Vigdor & Wilson and currently serves as treasurer for the MCBA.
