Admission Requirements for Early Leaders

If you are interested in applying to the Simon School as an Early Leader (0-3 years of work experience) complete the regular online application. While the Admissions Committee does not directly compare an Early Leader application with an application of someone with 4-6 years or more of work experience, the Committee is expecting specific criteria in your application that demonstrates an ability to be successful both in the classroom, as well as after graduate studies:

  • The Admissions Committee will place more emphasis on the academic portion of the application (undergraduate institution attended, major, performance, GMAT, etc) and generally expect that Early Leaders will have an above average GPA and GMAT (the entering averages at the Simon School are currently 3.5 and 675, respectively);
  • Personal readiness for graduate business study as shown through essays, letters of recommendation, and admissions interview (by request of the Admissions Committee only);
  • Meaningful business-related full-time and part-time work experience and/or internships with a demonstrated level of responsibility;
  • Strong leadership, team and interpersonal skills.

To prepare you for graduate business studies at Simon and a future business career, we recommend you do the following during your undergraduate studies:

  • Choose your own classes/majors, while considering analytical courses such as accounting, statistics, algebra, and calculus;
  • Get involved in activities that match your passions and demonstrate your potential for leadership;
  • Take the GMAT during your junior or senior year. Since the GMAT exam is valid for 5 years, we recommend you take it while still in school as the knowledge base that is tested on the GMAT is still fresh in your mind;
  • Complete business-related internships or jobs that will broaden your experiences; and
  • Arrange an individual visit to campus or attend our Undergraduate Preview Day to learn more about the program.

Valued M.B.A. Skills

Malatil Patil 08

“The tools that I have found most valuable are knowledge of how to construct the framework to solve a business problem and the quantitative skills to support this framework. The world of business is very numbers-oriented and, with my skills from Simon, I can develop a model to demonstrate a business problem and work with the model to solve it.”
