Rochester Early Business Scholars

REBS is a six-year B.A./B.S.-M.B.A. program for exceptional undergraduates who know early on that they are interested in pursuing a career in a business-related field. Individuals interested in the REBS program apply to both the University of Rochester undergraduate program and simultaneously indicate an interest in REBS by completing a supplemental application. Selected REBS students enter the University of Rochester with an assurance of admission into the Simon School upon successful completion of the bachelor’s degree and meeting REBS requirements. The program is designed to provide academic enrichment rather than acceleration in preparing you for a business education and career.

As Rochester undergraduates, REBS students enjoy:

  • M.B.A.-specific academic advisement,
  • Access to M.B.A. student mentoring,
  • Invitation to seminars, presentations and networking with academic and business leaders, and
  • Advisement on summer internship selections.

REBS students:

  • Earn all the benefits of the college education, including consideration for undergraduate scholarships, the Rochester Curriculum and advising, study abroad, guaranteed housing and unique programs such as Take Five, a tuition-free fifth year to pursue an extra interest,
  • Choose any undergraduate program, but should include M.B.A. preparatory classes in statistics, micro-economics, financial accounting, algebra and calculus,
  • Maintain excellent academic performance (3.5 or higher),
  • Are not required to take the GMAT for admission into the M.B.A. program. However, if you request consideration for merit-based scholarships during the M.B.A., the GMAT is required, and
  • Participate in business-related summer internships, to best prepare for the Simon experience.

Applying to the Program

You must complete the University of Rochester application (Parts 1 and 2) and a supplemental REBS application. The profile of admitted REBS students includes:

  • Strong un-weighted GPA and coursework at the highest available levels (Honors, AP),
  • Excellent SAT I (or ACT) scores, and
  • Extracurricular activities including business and non-business interests.

Undergraduate Admissions provides notification in early spring if you are selected for a REBS interview. Interviews are required for admission to REBS and take place in early spring. If you are not offered an interview, you will automatically be reviewed for regular admission to the University and notified of a regular decision in mid-to late-March. Regularly admitted students may take courses in the Management Studies Certificate through Simon as undergraduates, even if you are not participating in REBS.
