Concentration in Manufacturing Management or Service Management

This M.S. degree with a concentration in Manufacturing Management or Service Management provides management training for individuals who wish to pursue a career in operations. The program can help operations managers and industrial or manufacturing engineers gain further expertise in operations management and stay current with the most recent developments in the field. Upon graduation, students who concentrate in Manufacturing Management are prepared to engage in a career managing the manufacturing function, as well as those supporting it in finance, accounting and marketing. Students who study Service Management are ready to pursue careers with line responsibilities or consulting, as well as in service-oriented industries such as finance and retailing.

Degree Requirements (12 courses/39 credits)

Full-time students who pursue Manufacturing or Service Management complete the program in nine months and begin their studies in September. Students considering the Manufacturing Management Program must have a previous introductory course in operations management in order to be able to complete the program in three quarters. Part-time study is available with enrollment throughout the year.

The core curriculum requires:

  • GBA 411 - Framing and Analyzing Business Problems 1 (plus 1 credit lab)
  • GBA 412 - Framing and Analyzing Business Problems 2
  • CIS 401 - Information Systems for Management** (plus 1 credit lab)
  • OMG 402 - Operations Management**
  • STR 401 - Managerial Economics (plus 1 credit lab)

The four required electives include:

  • OMG 411 - Supply Chain Management (Manufacturing Management concentration only)
  • OMG 412 - Service Management (Service Management concentration only)
  • OMG 413 - International Manufacturing and Service Strategy
  • OMG 415 - Process Improvement**
  • OMG 416 - Project Management**

Either concentration requires four additional electives from the following:

  • ACC 401 - Corporate Financial Accounting
  • APS 420 - Applied Time Series Analysis
  • CIS 415 - Business Process Analysis and Design (ECM 415)
  • CIS 416 - Advanced Information Technology (ECM 416)
  • CIS 435 - Managing Electronic Commerce Technology (ECM 435)
  • CIS 440 - Electronic Commerce Strategy (ECM 440)
  • CIS 446 - Financial Information Systems (FIN 446)
  • FIN 402 - Capital Budgeting and Corporate Objectives
  • OMG 411 - Supply Chain Management
  • OMG 412 - Service Management
  • OMG 413 - International Manufacturing and Service Strategy
  • STR 403 - The Economic Theory of Organizations

**The area coordinator may permit substitution of an advanced OMG or CIS course if the student has substantial work experience.
