Macroeconomics is offered only as a minor field of study in the Ph.D. Program, but the research environment for students interested in the area is excellent. The environment provides valuable information about current research in the field to both faculty and students interested in this area. In addition, there is a close working relationship with the University of Rochester’s Department of Economics, and students have access to the faculty and the workshop series there.
Students who wish to minor in Macroeconomics take the Economics Core. The first year culminates with the Economics Core Exam given in June.
Preparation for passing the Macroeconomics Qualifying Exam involves taking Macroeconomics I and II (ECO 475 and 4764 credit hours each), and two 500-level macroeconomics courses in the Department of Economics. Students take the exam in Macroeconomics, given in the Department of Economics, as their Qualifying Exam.
