Non-Discrimination
In accordance with University of Rochester policy, the Simon School is committed to forbidding discrimination based on race, sex, religion, color, national or ethnic origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, or military service in its administration of educational policies, programs, or activities, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic or other University-administered programs, or employment. Employer Information The Career Management Center (CMC) shares recruiters’ contact information for student use, unless specifically asked not to. This information is accessible only to Simon students through our eRecruiting system.
Effective Posting
In order to present your company and job posting in the most effective manner, the CMC recommends that you include the following information in your posting: Brief Company Description, Job Description, Work Authorization Requirements, Application Instructions and Contact Information.
Interview Eligibility
Only current, full-time and part-time, degree-seeking students are eligible to participate in interviewing and other designated recruiting activities coordinated through the CMC.
Call-Backs & Company Visits
The CMC encourages employers to accommodate student schedules and course loads when scheduling call-backs. Students invited to visit a company should be reimbursed promptly for all expenses. Additionally, the CMC requests that employers inform our office of position status and call-backs so that we are able to answer students questions and provide accurate information.
Cancellation of Recruiting
The CMC requests that companies who cancel a recruiting schedule communicate that information directly to the students. We will assist in this process but believe that such communication is more appropriate coming from the company in order to maintain that firm's credibility in the minds of students and alumni.
Job Offer Response Deadline
Student feedback suggests that they favorably regard companies that allow them time to make a sound and informed decision. The CMC requests that employers making job offers to Simon M.B.A. students allow for a reasonable amount of time to make a decision. As a guideline, we recommend that students considering full-time offers be given 30 to 60 days. For students considering intern offers, we recommend 30 days. If a student feels that he or she needs more time, he or she should communicate to the firm how much time is required and why it is needed. When asked by either the student or the firm, we will attempt to facilitate the creation of a mutually acceptable timeline.
Withdrawing an Offer/Acceptance
If a firm must withdraw an offer for any reason, the recruiting contact should notify Patty Phillips, Executive Director of the Career Management Center, as soon as possible (585) 275-4881. The CMC considers withdrawal of an offer to be a serious matter that significantly harms a firm’s credibility in the minds of students and alumni. Therefore, we hope to work with employers to prevent rescinded offers. Similarly, if a student withdraws acceptance of an offer, the firm should notify Patty Phillips immediately so that we can thoroughly assess the situation. The faculty and administration of the Simon School consider withdrawal of an offer or acceptance without cause to be unethical behavior.
Code of Conduct
The Simon Graduate School of Business encourages students to behave according to the highest of ethical standards. In keeping with this, students at the Simon School are required to sign a Code of Conduct in order to be eligible for services through the Career Management Center. This document covers ethical behavior as it pertains to the job search and has been developed in collaboration with employers, faculty and students. If you are interested in seeing a copy of this document please contact Patty Phillips, Executive Director of Career Management Center.
