Center for Information Intensive Services

Mission

The Center for Information Intensive Services (CIIS) is part of the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester . Its primary mission is to serve as a center of excellence for research in Information Intensive Services and provide a platform for meaningful interaction between business executives and researchers in these increasingly important sectors of the economy.

Information Intensive Services are segments of service economy that are knowledge and data intensive. Examples include financial services, consulting services, the entertainment industry, supply chain logistics, technical support services and healthcare. Towards the fulfillment of its mission, the center has laid out the following objectives:

  1. Serve as an intellectual leader and a focal point for multi-disciplinary research in Information Intensive Services.
  2. Promote active collaboration with the business community to identify issues of critical importance to these services and disseminate cutting edge scientific knowledge on these issues.
  3. Drive curriculum innovation to better train students for successful careers in Information Intensive Services and provide firms with a larger pool of management talent.

Methods

  1.  Foster rigorous interdisciplinary research through broad faculty participation.
  2.  Match faculty and doctoral students to industrial projects.
  3. Engage MBA student teams through class projects and business internships.
  4. Conduct regular executive and academic workshops on Information Intensive Services.
  5. Create and deliver MBA course content and focused executive short-courses.
  6. Publish working papers and a regular newsletter on current issues to disseminate knowledge.

Resources

The Simon School faculty are internationally recognized as thought leaders for their research on Business Process Outsourcing and Design, Call Center Management, Corporate Information Services, Financial Services, Medical Informatics, and Supply Chain Logistics Integration. The Simon School has a long tradition of management research excellence and of fostering cross-disciplinary work and can thus bring many perspectives to bear on important business problems in a rigorous and scientific manner. Our students are entrepreneurial and well trained in business analytics. Many are international and thus bring a global perspective to business.
