We have to completely rethink our mortgage institutions according to Yale economist Robert J. Shiller, who spoke during the Simon School’s NYC Conference on Emerging Risks to America’s Financial Stability on May 19 at the Sentry Center. Shiller said people take leveraged, undiversified investments in homes with their entire life savings and that’s a risky thing to do. Shiller says it doesn’t get talked about much, but it led to the financial crisis.
