Contest Information and Guidelines for the Simon Games

Competition Information:

  • The scholarship competition consists of two consecutive rounds of play.
    • The first game is Introduction to Marketing Simulation during which participants play against the computer.  This game runs for two weeks, and each participant will need to meet two to three scheduled business decision deadlines during each of the two weeks.  Each decision cycle should take one to three hours to complete. All participants who complete this first game are moved to the next game regardless of score.

    • The second game is Advanced Strategic Marketing in which participants play against fellow competitors.  This game runs for four weeks, and each participant will meet two decision deadlines per week; each decision cycle should take six to eight hours to complete.  Decision deadlines in this game are strictly enforced, and participants should plan their time accordingly.

  • At the end of Advanced Strategic Marketing the individual cumulative balanced score will be tabulated. The top ten participants (from Part Time MBA, Executive MBA, a returning player pool participant group--30 participants in total) will be invited to the final round of the competition.

  • In the Final Round, Report to the Board, participants give presentations on their performance in the overall competition to a panel of faculty, alumni and admissions staff on campus at the University of Rochester-Simon Business School.

  • The committee will review the presentations and announce the scholarship recipients the same day.
