Executive M.B.A.

Retired Senior Vice President, Eastman Kodak
Executive Professor of Business Administration, Simon School
Class of 1979

Larry Matteson has experienced Simon from both sides of the desk. As a student in the Executive Program with a background in technical areas, he gained an understanding of disciplines with which he had never had much contact – marketing, accounting, finance – as well as a whole new understanding of global business. This new knowledge equipped him to evaluate contributions by specialists in other fields and to ask the right questions. Today Larry is a Simon executive professor, the winner of several teaching awards. He passes on to his students what he gained here – understanding, knowledge, confidence and perspective. His own successful careers testify to the excellence of a Simon education.

“Three years after graduating, I was a corporate officer and vice president. Three years later, I was a group vice president overseeing business units representing $4.5 billion in revenues. What I learned in the M.B.A. program absolutely carried me past that promotional barrier: ‘Does he really understand business?’ … Today, in my strategy courses, I tell my students that I am an absolute believer in the School’s economics-based approach – I have seen how it helps you.”
