It was the Simon School’s reputation for excellence in entrepreneurship education that brought Martin Hellweg to Rochester. He was not disappointed. In fact, it was an idea sparked during his years at Simon that became the Ally Management Group, a turnaround management firm of which Martin is managing partner. As CEO of Swissmetal, he is currently leading the restructuring of the company. He has also been instrumental both in the complete turnaround of a publicly traded media technology firm in Germany and the successful sale of another Swiss-based, publicly traded enterprise in the industrial sector.

“My Simon education and my thinking about problems has helped me tremendously in identifying problems quickly, focusing on the real issues and guiding people through a difficult phase.” As a student, Martin took full advantage of the available opportunities, extracurricular as well as academic. “During my time at Simon, I co-founded “World According to Simon” (“WATS”) because I really felt that students needed more of a voice. For a foreign student, that wasn’t the easiest thing to do, but it worked out well, and the support was outstanding. I am proud to say the newspaper still exists today.”
