Country of Origin: Peru Favorite Courses Taken: Economic Theory of Organizations, Financial Statement Analysis, Cases in Finance, Corporate Finance "I continue to be amazed by the quality of the faculty at Simon--I never thought that I would sign up for more than the required finance courses but I really enjoy them!" Silvia Torres learned about the Simon School and its outstanding record of placing its brand management graduates with top corporations through the Consortium for Graduate Studies in Management, an organization committed to fostering diversity and leadership in graduate business education. As a student, she found the excellence that she expected in her chosen area, but was surprised to discover that she was also drawn strongly to finance courses. One course short of a finance concentration at graduation, she brings that special competence to her first post-M.B.A. job at Procter & Gamble. Silvia took advantage of Simon’s extracurricular opportunities to develop important skills. She was president of LASOS (The Latin American Student Organization) and an officer of the Simon Marketing Association. “Through these activities,” she said, “I learned a lot about leadership and about how to motivate others and accomplish goals with limited resources. These are key traits of a successful brand manager, so I know that I will apply these abilities in the work environment.” Simon provided, as well, an enrichingly international student body. Silvia plans to work abroad at some point and is confident that the give and take among students from many nations, in teams and throughout the life of the School, has prepared her well to work effectively in other cultures. |
