Release Date:

David Curry didn’t realize he had the ability to run all facets of a business until he took a chance and participated in the Simon Games, the Simon Business School’s online business simulation scholarship competition. After winning a scholarship during the competition in 2011, he knew he was ready to enroll and pursue his MBA at Simon.

In the Simon Games, participants compete in an online business simulation that makes them the CEO of their own firm. Over the course of seven weeks, participants are responsible for business decisions involving market entry, operations, and marketing to expand their business and compete against others in a global marketplace.

Simon has expanded the competition to include full- and partial-tuition scholarships not only to its Executive MBA Program, but to its Full-Time and Part-Time MBA programs in the fourth annual online scholarship competition, beginning February 10, 2014.

There is one full-tuition grand prize scholarship for each program, valued at over $90,000 and three additional competitors will receive partial-tuition scholarships.

Past Simon Games participants say the return on investment in the competition is significant. "This is your introduction to the quantitative element of the Simon MBA," said Curry ¢13S (MBA), Vice President of Engineering and Technical Sales, Cerion Energy. "Success in the simulation, and the program, depends on how well you can convert data into information that you will use to make managerial decisions and monitor your performance in the market. These skills are essential in any business."

The Simon Games are perfectly suited to testing the skills of an entrepreneurial leader. The Games require participants to take the helm of a simulated company and weigh the decisions and trade-offs faced by technology CEOs every day. One of last year’s winners, Adam Grossman, DealerTeam, LLC, and CIO of Auction Direct USA Used Vehicle Superstore says, "For startup entrepreneurs in particular, I think there is no better path to a top quality business school than winning the Simon Games. Even if you don’t win, the experience and networking opportunities are more than worth the time investment."

At the end of the competition, the top 10 scorers will be invited to the Simon Business School campus on April 21, 2014, for the final round of competition. Participants are assessed by a committee comprised of Simon Business School administrators and faculty. They are judged on MBA program preparedness, analytical skills demonstrated during the competition, and their professional background.

The registration deadline to participate in the competition is February 3, 2014.  Online registration is available at www.simon.rochester.edu/simongames. For more information, contact the Simon School Executive Programs Office at emba@simon.rochester.edu or call (585) 275-3439.
